How SARMs Compare to Anabolic Steroids for Building Muscle

The use of SARMS has been gaining mainstream attention recently. They are being marketed as a more benign form of steroids: they work great for building muscles without the nasty side effects that anabolic steroids are known to cause.

However, this has raised alarm bells for many health authorities who correctly point out the fact that SARMs are not officially licensed for human consumption. In fact, it is illegal to market them for such use.

Needless to say, this raises some serious questions about their use and safety.

The top anabolic steroids are, by far, the most popular method of bulking up your muscles in the shortest amount of time. However, the effects of abusing steroids has gained them global notoriety and they are illegal without a valid prescription. Despite this, their use is widely prevalent in this ultra-competitive industry.

Let’s take a look at how SARMs compares to anabolic steroids for building muscle and to gain a better understanding of why SARMs are gaining significant popularity.

What are SARMs?

SARMs is the acronym for selective androgen receptor modulators, which is a group of drugs that were originally created between the 1970s and 1990s to help fight muscle degeneration and fat retention problems. In other words, SARMs can selectively modulate androgen receptors in the body in order to produce more muscle and reduce fat.

Androgen receptors are essentially chemical messengers and they are actually responsible for a lot of things that go on in your body. Unlike steroids, which pretty much hammer ALL androgen receptors and can potentially lead to some nasty side effects, SARMs targets only those receptors that deal with muscle and fat.

By doing so, they can manipulate the messages sent to these receptors in a way that creates more muscle and cuts more fat more so than would otherwise occur naturally.

Why SARMs are better than anabolic steroids

When it comes to building up muscle, there is no question that anabolic steroids are more effective than SARMs. However, the potential harmful side effects of steroid abuse has been well-documented over the years to the point that the mere mention of the word “steroids” implies a negative connotation.

With SARMs, however, the process of bulking up is a little more subtle but the potential for negative side effects are much more diminished. In fact, most SARMs cause zero to side effects due to the fact that they do not cause testosterone suppression or require any kind of post cycle therapy (PCT).

That being said, SARMs are not legally licensed for human consumption and it is illegal to do so. However, this means you won’t find them on any banned substances list or run afoul of the FDA if you buy or sell them.

How to take SARMs

SARMs are available in either capsuled, powdered, or liquid forms. The recommended doses of SARMs are quite small and it’s important that they be precise. This makes the powdered version a little more difficult to control and consume while the capsules offer the easiest method but they’re also a little more pricey.

Anabolic steroids, on the other hand, can be taken in pills, via injections and can also be applied in creams and patches. Most steroid users begin by consuming the pill form because they take less time to clear the body. However, pills have shorter half-lives and require more frequent dosing which can have a negative impact on your liver.

The infamous injection method can be administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously. They have much longer half-lives and therefore do not require the frequent dosages that pill users take.

Regardless of the form of consumption, all steroid dosages require post cycle therapy in order to get the body to produce natural testosterone again.

The benefits of stacking with SARMs VS Steroids

The process of stacking SARMs entails careful planning to maximize the potential to reach your personal goals. You also need to consider your medical situation, general health status and have a realistic expectation of what you are trying to achieve.

Remember, although SARMs may not be as effective as traditional anabolic steroids, they do offer the potential of providing great results without the inherent risks that steroids represent. In this sense, they are a much healthier alternative to anabolic steroids.  but not as healthy as legal steroids.

Stacking SARMs has shown to be more versatile and offers more options than stacking with steroids. The fact that SARMS specifically target receptors that deal with muscle and fat means that they avoid those other receptors that could potentially cause harmful side effects.

Using SARMs on an individual basis, however, is pretty much a hit or miss scenario, but stacking them increases the odds in your favor for a more effective outcome.

Despite this, SARMs are still not viewed as a complete solution and the fact that they are not licensed means that they have all these weird names which can make the process of identification difficult.

The potential side-effects to watch out for

So far as we have seen, the risks associated with the use of SARMs is far less than with steroids and the effects are at least comparable. However, we would be remiss not to point out the potential risks involved in using SARMs.

After all, there is a valid reason for them not being licensed for human consumption. This is a very important point because it means that these drugs are not as regulated as their licensed counterparts. It means that there is a big potential for misbranding and tainting with unlisted ingredients.

On its own, however, there just aren’t enough long term studies available to show the potential health impacts that SARMs can have when consumed by people. Despite this, anti-doping officials have seen an increase in usage amongst elite athletes and have been sanctioning them in greater numbers in recent years.

The potential for causing harmful side effects are a known consequence of using anabolic steroids; but they are great for building muscle. SARMs, on the other hand, are not quite as effective as anabolic steroids in terms of muscle building, but they do not display the same immediate side effects that steroids cause.

Still, SARMs show an encouraging promise for the future of muscle-building. However, until more studies are completed to determine the long-term effects of using SARMs, their quality is all but questionable.
